Loughcrew Cairn T ceiling stone Pendant
-925 sterling silver- Hallmarked
Starting out with this piece I traced the design. I then scale it down to a suitable size by drawing it a couple of times. Once I arrive at a scale that works I then pierce from 925 sterling silver the drawing in 1.2mm thickness sheet. This is done using a jeweler's piercing saw. I use files to clean up all saw marks. I chose a 15mm radius disc which gives a 30mm diameter for the base of the pendant. This is pierced also from 1.2mm sterling silver. When positioned I use two butane torches, silver solder & high heat to solder the design to the base plate. Once pickled in an acidic solution I clean up the design using files and emery paper. I then solder a jump ring & bail to the main disc. This allows for hanging the piece from an 18” black rope chord.
When all soldering is done, I begin to craft the piece. This is done with jeweler's files and sanding sticks. For the back of the pendant I use a sanding drum to add texture. Finally I use a Foredoom & flex shaft drill and diamond coated burr to create a beautiful finish on the inside of the design. This lends texture to the piece and gives depth to the symbol. The piece is then polished using Tripoli & rouge compounds before hallmarking 925 & with my makers mark.
